One of the many things that I love about music is that it is timeless but the other thing it is and no matter how many times people try to make it …IT IS COLORLESS!! People get mad when entertainers crossover, they say “awwww they think they white now” “awww they forgot about us” and my personal favorite “awww they forgot where they came from”. Well today I want to give a quick short lesson on Derivatives 101. First and foremost giving glory to the creator of all in all that it is, GOD, he is the creator of all music in which we are alllll, whether we like it or not, his children. Black, white, gold or honey mustard we are he and his is us!! Secondly Rock and R&B (for you that are closed-minded white music and black music) are derivatives of The Blues (no Muddy Water means no Elvis or Jimi Hendrix). With that being said R&B is a derivative of Rock and neither of these are black and white they are GREY!!! They became black and white when advertising became live visual (it always amazes me how visual can mess up audio). Oh wait hold on…you did know that R&B stood for Rhythm and Blues right? In order to achieve true greatness you must become a pied piper for all not just a few, you your self must become grey and embody all. So you ready here’s the break down just because you crossed over doesn’t mean you think your white it means you just want to show the world and not a set few how you get down. Just because it went from BET to MTV doesn’t mean anybody forgot about you it just means now they have a platform to glorify you. Last but surely not least…nobody and I mean nobody unless they have a horrific life altering accident, forget where they come from and let me say this because you come from somethings that doesn’t make you that something. The goal in life is to grow that is how it was designed so when someone grows away from something that doesn’t mean they forgot and just meant they have grown on and not forgot. And listen don’t even tell yourself that lie if any of us including you, made IT, don’t lie don’t lie don’t lie, you’re not going to live or hang here either, doesn’t mean you forgot it just means you grew and instead of dogging that fact we should celebrate it. With all that being said.
The very thing that I was just talking about a 50-year-old women made it her knowa. Madonna during Super Bowl XLVI encompassed all of what I just said, as she has done her whole career. She came from humble beginnings and because of her color in order for soulfulness to get platformed she had to give you shenanigans. But last night while showing her timeless greatness she also decided to showcase to the world entertainers that she deemed great as well. She shared the stage with Cee-Lo Green, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A, A HBC Band and The Mississippi Mass Choir, who does that??!! A great entertainer does and the Derivative of that was the greatest Super Bowl halftime show ever…As always watch and listen responsibly!!!
